A St. Mary man accused of stealing electricity, died after being electrocuted in the Richmond community, yesterday ( June 8 ).

 

Head of the St. Mary police division, Superintendent Bobette Morgan Simpson said the man’s identity is being withheld, until formal notification of relatives. The incident occurred about 6 PM.

 

Meantime, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has again called on citizens to desist from stealing electricity.

 

In a statement, the JPS said its team had been working in the community yesterday, to restore electricity, after an earlier outage.

 

JPS said after the team left, a man allegedly attempted to make an illegal connection, and was electrocuted, as a result. It said the tragic incident is a sad and needless loss of life.

 

The company said it has been at pains to dissuade persons from stealing from the network. Persons wishing to become regularized should contact the company.
