Audit being conducted to quantify Burger King fraud loss; 5 workers charged

An audit is being conducted, to verify the actual extent of the fraud, allegedly perpetrated by five employees at a Burger King location, in Kingston.

 

Preliminary reports had indicated that the fraud amounted to approximately $10 million.

 

Lawmen assigned to the fraud squad have charged the five employees, with larceny as a servant, conspiracy to defraud, and engaging in transaction involving criminal property.

 

Charged are four cashiers – 36-year-old Terry Ann Oharo, 22-year-old Astia Mitchell, 39-year-old Sharon Williams, and 21-year-old Christina Lewis, along with 39-year-old supervisor Kamelia Wisdom. They are all from Kingston and St. Andrew.

 

Reports are that between December 2022 and March 2023, the employees allegedly stole an undetermined sum of money, from the establishment. A report was made to the police on Sunday, April 2, resulting in their arrest on the same day.

 

The accused were charged on Wednesday, April 5, and are scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St. Andrew parish court, on Friday, May 12.
