Angry residents of Old Harbour, St. Catherine took to the streets again to protest killing of two men by the police

Angry residents of Old Harbour in St. Catherine took to the streets again this morning as they continued to protest the killing of two men in their community by the police.

The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Daniel McKenzie, otherwise called ‘bottle’, and 23-year-old Nigreeya Bailey, both of Terminal Road in the parish.

Police say McKenzie and Bailey were shot during an alleged confrontation during which a firearm was seized.

But the residents have disputed the police report.

They claim the men were killed in cold blood.

A group of angry residents mounted fiery road blocks along sections of the Terminal Road again this morning, while calling for justice in the killings.

Meanwhile, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is reporting that there are 55 matters in court relating to alleged misconduct by the security forces.

Commissioner of INDECOM Hugh Faulkner made the disclosure while speaking to IRIE FM news, about the double fatal shooting in Old Harbour.

According to INDECOM, investigations have started in that case but the police and alleged eye witnesses have been giving contrasting reports.

He noted that none of the officers involved in these cases was wearing a body camera.
