Akeem Blake wins Jamaica’s first medal at the 2024 staging of the World Athletics Championship

Akeem Blake captured his first global and Jamaica’s first medal at the 2024 staging of the World Athletics Championship, in Glasgow, Scotland yesterday.

This when he ran a splendid race to snatch bronze in the men’s 60 metres final, 6.46 seconds as the event was won by American Christian Coleman in a world leading 6.41 seconds with Noah Lyles taking second in 6.44 seconds.

Blake had clocked 6.51 seconds to win semi final two earlier.

Meanwhile, national  record  holder  rajindra  campbell  failed to register a mark in the men’s shot putt final – the event won by ryan crouser of the United States who hurled a championship record 22.77 meters.

Earlier, national  Champion  Danniel  Thomas- Dodd  finished outside  of  the  medals in the women’s shot putt final, when she finished  6th  in  the  final  with  a  season best  effort  of  19.12  metres.

Meantime, national record holder Rusheen Mcdonald ran well to book a spot in today’s final of the men’s 400 meters – mcdonald clocked an indoor best 46.02 seconds to snatch second spot in his semi final behind 400 meters word record holder Karsten Warholm who ran a season’s best 45.86 seconds.
