Agriculture Minister looking forward to recommendations of new JAS Electoral Review Committee

Agriculture Minister Floyd Green says he is looking forward to the recommendations of the newly established independent Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) Electoral Review Committee.

The Minister announced the Committee’s establishment following last month’s meeting with the JAS Executive, where it was agreed that an independent committee be set up.

It is tasked with reviewing the processes involved in conducting the Annual General Meeting, and the election process to ensure a seamless transition of leadership.

The Committee will be Chaired by Attorney-at-law, Donahue Martin.

Other members include, Deputy Director of Elections, Gladstone Brown, Agriculturalist, Hydel Brown and the Ministry’s Chief Technical Director, Courtney Cole and Senior Legal Officer, Marsha Locke.

Noting that the JAS is a critical organization for agriculture and farmers, Mr Green says all efforts will be made to ensure that it functions effectively and efficiently.

The Ministry believes that open dialogue and cooperation are vital in addressing
the challenges faced by the JAS.
