St. Ann Chamber of Commerce calls for swift prosecution of those responsible for vandalism of JPS wires in Richmond

The St. Ann Chamber of Commerce is calling on authorities to move swiftly, to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the recent theft and vandalism of Jamaica Public Service (JPS) electrical wires in the parish.

The appeal comes after several spans of transmission and distribution lines were stolen from a JPS work site in the Richmond community on Sunday night.

In addition to removing the wires, vandals cut sections of the remaining lines, leaving them completely unusable.

This latest incident occurred less than a week after a disturbing act of sabotage, in which a freshly planted utility pole in Bonham Spring was deliberately cut at its base resulting in recently restored customers once again losing electricity.

Chamber President, Dr. Ransford Davidson, warns that every delay caused by these criminal acts, places additional strain on people’s livelihoods and hinders the ability of local commerce to recover.
