Works Minister, Robert Morgan, has noted concern about inequity in the provision of space in urban areas for vulnerable Jamaicans to live.

Speaking at the recent Caribbean Urban Forum, Mr. Morgan pointed out that the quality of a person’s urban life depends on where they live.

He cited as examples Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine and St. James as parishes where there is a divide between communities that were planned and ordered, and communities that developed without adequate planning.

He pointed out that in many cases, persons who migrate to urban areas to work for affluent people end up living in substandard conditions.

Mr. Morgan said by planning infrastructure developments, governments can create practical access to work, school, health care, public safety, emergency response and economic opportunity.
