Local Government Minister says over 2000 streetlights will be installed across the country within a few months
Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie says, over 2000 streetlights will be installed across the country within a few months.
He said this is part of a broader effort to provide thousands of streetlights to communities.
According to Mr. Mckenzie, 22,800 streetlights will be mounted in each of the 228 municipal divisions within the next 2 years.
He noted that he has been working with the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) to deliver streetlights to various communities.
Mr. Mckenzie emphasized that JPS has implemented measures to prevent persons from stealing the lights.
Meantime he urged persons to contact the authorities, if their community is in need of street lights.
Guy’s Hill, St. Catherine is one of the latest areas to benefit from the initiative.
Twenty-five streetlights were installed in communities such as Ragsville, Lime Hall and Cheesefield.
