The Education Ministry is being called on to lead a campaign to foster the habit of saving among children.
Opposition Senator Lambert Brown made the appeal Friday, as the Upper House deliberated on the pensions super-annuation funds and retirement schemes amendment regulations.
Senator Brown lamented that too many workers are being denied a pension due to being on contract and that these workers do not save towards retirement.
Senator Brown noted the importance of developing a habit of saving from an early age.
