PSTEB Head says there will be review of penalty for excess speeding with consideration given to restricting repeat offenders from driving

Head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. Gary McKenzie says there will be a review of the penalty for excess speeding, with consideration given to restricting repeat offenders from driving.

Speeding offences attract demerit points on the offender’s licence.

The statement follows Saturday’s motor vehicle crash along the Hellshire main road in St. Catherine, which left two people dead and 12 others injured.

ACP McKenzie says a large number of fatalities since the start of the year are linked to speeding and could have been avoided.

He said that with the increase in road fatalities as well as damage to properties, there has to be some decisive action.
