Minister of Labour and Social Security, Pearnel Charles Junior has stressed the importance of people understanding and correctly using the opportunities available in the Blue Economy.

The Blue Economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, jobs and improved livelihoods, while also conserving marine eco-systems.

Speaking at the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) Industry Conference yesterday, Mr. Charles jnr explained that the eco-systems contribute greatly to Jamaica’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
