Police have charged a St. Mary man in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a female pedestrian in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, on Saturday, June 13.

27-year-old Rodney Thompson of Geddes Town has been charged in relation to the death of Claudette Thorpe of Petersfield District, also in St. Mary.

Thompson has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without a driver’s licence and driving without insurance.

Reports are that about 6:10 a.m., Thompson was driving a white Toyota Mark X motor car along main street in ocho rios , when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

The car mounted the sidewalk where Thorpe was walking, hitting her.

The vehicle then crashed into a wooden utility pole and came to a stop.

Thorpe was was pronounced dead.

Police say Thompson exited the vehicle and fled the scene.

However, relatives later handed him over to investigators.
