The St. Catherine north police have charged the man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl in Linstead, on Thursday.

He is 27 year old labourer Kevaughn Aldrid, of Ewarton.

Aldrid is facing charges of rape, forcible abduction and sexual touching.

A court date is being arranged.

The 7 year old girl is getting support from the police victim support unit, as well as the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA).

Reports are that on Thursday, when the girl left school, she was unable to get a taxi and had to walk home.

Further reports are that she was ambushed by a man who allegedly drugged her, then assaulted her.

The child was able to later seek help from residents, who summoned the police.

She was taken to hospital for medical attention.

The alleged attacker was subsequently held by residents and handed over to the police.
