Pure National Limited to resume local ice production soon

Jamaica’s primary ice producer, Pure National Limited, manufacturers of Pure National Ice, Happy Ice and Happy Water has announced that preparations are almost complete for the resumption of local ice production.

This following the fire that disrupted operations last November.

The blaze led to the complete loss of production and storage capacity at the plant, creating a significant gap in the supply of ice throughout the island.

This resulted in the company resorting to importing ice to fill the gap and also in an increase in product prices, which caused public backlash.

In a statement, pure national limited said the company is in the final stages of reconstruction and is looking ahead with renewed purpose and national pride.

Managing Director Theresa Lindo said a new 70 tonne paktol ice-maker, has already been installed at the rebuilt facility.

Mrs Lindo said with this upgrade, pure national is positioned to increase its production capacity.

The company said during the period of disruption, pure national remained operational through alternative supply arrangements, ensuring that ice remained accessible across the island.

It said it is preparing to return to local production with improved technology and greater efficiency.
