JTA puts pause on planned industrial action

The action committee of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) is placing a pause on plans for industrial action.

This after the island’s public teachers received a new wage offer from the finance ministry.

The JTA says the pause on any contemplated strike will allow the new offer to be tabled before the association’s salaries and conditions of service committee.

This committee is tasked with carefully examining and deliberating on the offer.

Following this process a formal response will be submitted to the ministry.

JTA President Mark Malabver said the pause on industrial action should not be mistaken for satisfaction.

He said it should only indicate the JTA’s commitment to constructive engagement.
