Seivright Gardens division out of nomination day activities
Director of Elections Glaspole Brown says the Seivright Gardens division in St. Andrew will not be part of today’s Nomination Day activities.
The division is among four for which by-elections were announced also for September 3 with Nomination Day scheduled for today, August 18.
This was announced by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness during a JLP mass rally in Kingston recently and endorsed by Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie.
However, Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby raised concerns about the announcement, noting that due process had not been followed in the Seiveright Gardens division.
Speaking to IRIE FM News last evening, Mr. Brown said nominations will be accepted in the other three divisions.
According to the PNP at the time of the announcement, Councillor for the division, the JLP’s Delroy Williams, who is expected to vie for the Clarendon Central seat in the General Election, had not yet resigned.
His resignation as Councillor was submitted on August 11, a day after the announcement.
