Fears mounting among some residents of Essex in St. Mary following more killings in the community
Fears are mounting among some residents of Essex in St. Mary over what has been described as the disruption of law and order in the usually peaceful community.
The concern follows last night’s double murder during a vigil for a woman, who was reportedly shot dead by a policeman believed to be her boyfriend last week.
Those killed last night have been identified as 28-year-old Shaquille Harris, also known as “Nick” or “Big Red” of Golden Grove District in Guys Hill and 22-year-old Tiffanie Douse of Dunkel District, both in St. Mary.
IRIE FM understands that there was also another killing in the area last night.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, Member of Parliament for Central St. Mary, Dr. Morais Guy said it is not clear if the incidents are connected, but the spate of violence is cause for concern.
Dr. Guy, who noted that he had been in contact with the relatives of the young woman who was killed in last week’s incident, said he will revisit them to determine the appropriate support needed.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Constabulary Force said the two persons killed at the candlelight vigil for D’johnnay Graham are believed to be relatives of the police officer.
The constable who had reportedly tried to kill himself after taking Graham’s life, has been hospitalized under police guard.
According to the Police’s Communications arm, lawmen are working diligently to solve the case and are inviting anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
