The Washington Wizards have inked a four-year contract worth $10 million with Justin Champagnie who is being scouted by the Jamaica Basketball Association (JaBA).

This move comes as Champagnie continues to have a breakout season with the Wizards, showcasing his skills and earning career highs in points (7.5), rebounds (4.6), and field goal percentage (50.4%) across 40 regular-season appearances.

Initially joining the Wizards in February 2024 on a 10-day contract, Champagnie impressed the organization enough to earn a two-way deal in March. Now, with this new long-term agreement, the 23-year-old forward is set to earn $1.8 million for the remainder of the season.

The young star is also being scouted by the JaBA to represent the country at the FIBA Americas Pre-Qualifiers in August. The tournament serves as a crucial step in the pathway to the 2027 FIBA World Cup, and Champagnie is one of several NBA players with Jamaican heritage who are being targeted by the national program.

In addition to Champagnie, other NBA players with Jamaican ties—such as Nick Richards (Phoenix Suns), Isaiah Stewart (Detroit Pistons), Norman Powell (LA Clippers), Josh Minott (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Julian Champagnie (San Antonio Spurs)—are also in consideration for the national team led by head coach Rick Turner.

The Americas Pre-Qualifiers will feature teams from several countries, including Jamaica, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, Paraguay, and the US Virgin Islands, as they compete for advancement to the next stage of qualification.
