The Finance Ministry says the Government alone cannot fully fund the education sector.

State Minister for Finance Zavia Mayne made the statement at the Jamaica Teachers’ Association’s “Go Public! Fund Education national forum, today.

According to Mr. Mayne, who was speaking on behalf of Finance Minister Fayval Williams, the education sector continues to face concerns with funding.

He explained that this continues to account for teacher migration to countries that offer better salaries.

As such, he admitted that the sector is in need of greater funding, but the Government cannot do it alone.

However, he believes that the issue with funding can be fixed by changing who contributes, how resources are deployed, and what return is demanded from investments.

Mr. Mayne noted that the “Go Public, Fund Education” campaign is necessary.

He said the forum rallies together stakeholders to prioritize education funding.
