Culture Minister Olivia Babsy Grange says the church must continue to do its part by uniting citizens
Culture Minister Olivia Grange says the church must continue to do its part by uniting citizens.
She made the statement during the annual Reggae Month church service at the Fellowship Tabernacle in Kingston yesterday.
It was held under the theme “Ketch Di Spirit Inna Di Riddim.”
Noting calls from members of the church for a school tour -led by entertainer Spice – to be cancelled due to the explicit nature of many of her songs, Ms. Grange said, while she understands the concerns no one should be cast out.
She said there was a point in Jamaica’s history, where reggae music was not allowed in the church.
Ms. Grange said things have changed with reggae music helping to unite many people.
She said the church must also continue to help in this regard.
Last week, Ms. Grange, Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, Spice and other key stakeholders met to address the issues surrounding the school tour.
Speaking in the upper house of Parliament on Friday, Government Senator Abka Fitz Henley said he is optimistic that there will be a positive outcome on the way forward.
