NWC debt reduction initiative to benefit some 30,000 customers

Water Minister Matthew Samuda has stated that the National Water Commission’s (NWC) debt reduction initiative will benefit approximately 30,000 customers.

The initiative was announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness during the Jamaica Labour Party’s annual conference over the weekend.

It is set to be implemented in January and will run for three months.

The amnesty targets delinquent and disconnected NWC customers, with a particular focus on pensioners and individuals enrolled in the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).

Speaking at this morning’s post-cabinet press briefing, Minister Samuda emphasized that the amnesty would allow thousands of residents to reconnect to the NWC’s potable water supply, ensuring that they have legitimate access to water.

He stated that the initiative is in line with the government’s plan to reduce the cost of living for citizens.
