Golding says making bureaucracy more efficient and less costly needs continuous attention
Opposition leader Mark Golding says the critical task of making bureaucracy more efficient and less costly to users of government services, needs continuous attention.
He states that achieving efficiency will require changes to laws, rules and regulations.
He was reacting to comments by Prime Minister Andrew Holness that one pillar of the country’s growth agenda is a national drive to reduce red tape and bureaucracy.
Mr Golding says under a previous PNP administration, there was consistent effort to tackle a number of issues, adding that in 2014 the World Bank reported that Jamaica had the highest ranking in the Caribbean on the ease of doing business.
The opposition leader says over the past two terms, the government has done virtually nothing to improve the efficiency of the bureaucracy.
Mr. Golding says the government’s track record shows it does not have the capacity to deliver the reforms required to achieve an efficient bureaucracy.
