The opposition People’s National Party (PNP) is calling on the government to disclose to the nation the number of teachers who have migrated in the past 5 years.

Spokesperson on Education, Senator Damion Crawford has accused the government of downplaying the migration issue that has been plaguing the sector.

He said the situation needs to be investigated.

Mr. Crawford also called on the ministry of education to say the number of posts that have not been filled ‘for any period of time’ within the last 4 years.

This, as he said there are reports that some students who sat the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Mathematics examination last year, were without a teacher for two years. 

Mr. Crawford said he has also received reports from some principals that there have been shortages of teachers for the sciences and even physical education.
