Some 2,000 new residential units for workers of Spanish-operated hotels and their immediate families are to be constructed.
The revelation was made during a meeting with Spanish hoteliers and operators, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett and other local tourism officials in Madrid, Spain on Friday (January 20).
Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright said owners of the Grand Palladium, Riu, Secrets, Iberostar, Excellence, H-10, Melia and Bahia Principe hotels were represented at the meeting.
He said the hoteliers have recognized the need for housing for tourism workers and are moving to address the issue.
Meantime, Mr. Seiveright said the Ministry is committed to improving infrastructure in resort areas.
