New equipment expected to penalize more road offenders
The number of traffic tickets issued to motorists who breach the rules of the road is expected to increase, as the efficiency of the police is improved with new equipment.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force on Thursday morning received 750 rugged handsets and 750 printers for the traffic ticket management system or e-ticketing system.
The equipment is to boost further, the police’s capacity and efficiency, in handling road traffic offences and keeping the roadways safe.
Police commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says last year, 720,000 tickets were issued, an increase over previous years.
He explains that some 70, 000 of those tickets were issued under the pilot phase of the e-ticketing system.
The commissioner acknowledges that there has been an increase in the number of vehicles using the roadways.
He is urging motorists to abide by the rules of the road to avoid traffic tickets.
