A Dancehall fan from Zimbabwe has shared a letter addressed to the industry that is making rounds across social media platforms.

In the lengthy letter titled Producers Help Save Dancehall, the African fan is urging Dancehall entertainers, producers, and practitioners to bring back the authenticity of the genre.

The letter, which opened with Dear Dancehall, read in part, “Bring back the juggling, drum pattern, bass line, and the hardcore beats – you shouldn’t have to guess what type of music it is – identity is important.”

Bounty Killer who reposted the letter to his Instagram timeline agreed with the message along with producers Izy Beats, and Teflon Zinc Fence.

Red Rat, on the other hand, was not too quick to cosign the message. In the comment section, he wrote, “We still have producers still producing Dancehall, dem just nah get the highlight.”

Meanwhile, Reggae entertainer Lutan Fyah in his response wrote, “Our music culture is great and vast. We create a sound that surprises the world like nobody ever did. Let’s fight to keep what was created from our Jamaican genius. Original Reggae/Dancehall is the sound.”

Fellow entertainer Spragga Benz also shared the letter to his timeline with the caption, “Open letter to Dancehall.”
