Gov’t to address improper waste disposal, to reduce waste blocking drains
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says a plan is being worked on to address the problem of improper waste disposal, as part of efforts to reduce instances of waste contributing to blocked drainage systems.
He says the government is also aware of the challenges with inadequate drain infrastructure, to handle large volumes of flood water, during heavy rains.
Speaking in parliament yesterday, Mr. Holness noted that, following the passage of hurricane Ian, the national works agency began clean-up operations, and among the debris is cleared, is municipal waste.
Mr. Holness said fixing the waste problem, includes greater garbage collection, and the establishment of a waste-to-energy plant.
The Prime Minister said the government is making strategic investment decisions, regarding infrastructure that is resilient.
