The new Chapelton hospital in Clarendon is expected to be operational by December.

This was revealed by Chairman of the Southern Regional Health Authority Wayne Chen.

Speaking at a TODSS virtual meeting last evening, Mr. Chen expressed appreciation to a member of the Jamaican diaspora, for their significant contribution towards getting the project done.

During a recent tour of the site, Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed satisfaction with the progress being made with the renovation works at the facility.

The work should be completed by the end of October.

Phase one of the two-phased project was financed by a US $1 million donation by Jamaican businesswoman and philanthropist, Beverly Nichols, through her push start foundation.

Originally from Clarendon, Ms. Nichols now resides in the United States.

Through the National Health Fund and the Culture, Health, Arts, Sports, and Education (CHASE) fund, the government is spending $112 million to complete the second phase of the project.

During the construction works which began in 2019, the services at the hospital were transferred to the Summerfield community centre and patients were relocated to the May Pen hospital.
