A 3-year-old boy was killed, and five other people were wounded, after they were attacked and chopped by a man said to be of unsound mind, in Pagee, Port Maria, St Mary last evening.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released.

Another child is among the five wounded persons.

IRIE FM News understands that the 3-year-old was walking in the community with family members when the mentally ill man attacked him with a weapon.

Family members, including the child’s mother, reportedly tried to intervene, and were wounded in the incident.

The suspect has been apprehended, however his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

Member of Parliament for St Mary Central Dr. Morais Guy has described the incident as sad.

Amid reports that the attacker was mentally challenged, Dr. Guy said communities must work together to ensure those who are mentally ill, receive care.
