There was a build up of traffic at the Mammee Bay toll plaza in St. Ann, this morning.

Scores of relief vehicles heading to western Jamaica were apart of the pile-up which occurred following the announcement of the reinstatement of toll fees.

Office of the Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) branded vehicles were among vehicles observed in long lines of traffic.

On Sunday the Toll Authority advised that the toll collection would resume today following suspension, ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Melissa on October 28.

The toll barriers remained open after the passage of the hurricane to allow free flow of traffic.

In a statement last evening, the Transport Ministry said it wishes to be advised of the measures that the toll operators will be implementing to facilitate the continued passage of government vehicles, non-government organisations, and other citizens who are travelling to the west to offer relief.
