The country’s tourism sector will be further boosted, with the construction of the Unico 18º 77º hotel, in Montego Bay, St. James.
Ground was broken today (November 25), for the construction of the hotel, which promises to offer some 450 lavish rooms, many of which will feature direct ocean views, semi-private swimming pools, and outdoor hydro spa tubs.
Resorts under the Unico brand were developed by RCD Hotels, to fill a void in the adults-only all-inclusive market.
The new hotel is expected to provide some 4,000 Jamaicans with direct jobs, with an estimated 5,000 people employed in the construction phase.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett noted that the Unico 18º 77º Hotel is projected to bring thousands of new visitors, to the island.
He also pointed out, that there are plans to develop areas surrounding the hotel.
He also indicated that there are plans for more high-end hotels to be constructed in Montego Bay and other areas of the country.
