The police have announced the intention to create deeper partnerships with governments in the region, to clamp down on smuggling.
Speaking at a Jamaica Constabulary Force media briefing yesterday (June 8), Police Chief Major General Antony Anderson said he is aware of the smuggling of guns, drugs and humans from Jamaica to the United States via Mexico.
He said this trend over the years has fuelled the provision of guns and drugs for gangs in the island, as well as act as a portal for wanted criminals to evade the police.
As such, Commissioner Anderson said the police continue to collaborate with overseas partners in locating these alleged criminals.
He said through the partnership, some 6 persons have been arrested in relation to recent extradition requests from the United States, while 2 have been deported.
He told reporters that the issue is of great importance.
