Public transport operators have welcomed the Finance Ministry’s announcement, that the Public Passenger Vehicle, PPV, operator grants are now open.
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke made the announcement via social media today (June 20).
The grants valued at 25 thousand dollars, are to help cushion the rising cost of fuel.
Dr. Clarke said the grants are available to some 17,000 PPV operators, in possession of a valid Transport Authority license, who meet the requirements.
Persons can apply at wecare.gov.jm
Last week, members of the National Council of Taxi Associations, NCOTA, said they were restive as they said the government was taking too long to provide details about the disbursement of the grant.
Speaking with Irie Fm News today (June 20), NCOTA Media Liaison Dion Chance welcomed the update.
He is hopeful that the application process will not be challenging.
And President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, TODSS, Egeton Newman expressed similar sentiments.
