Wheelchair-bound man dies in Patrick City house fire
Firefighters responded to two separate incidents in the corporate area between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The fires broke out in Patrick City and on Spanish Town Road in St Andrew.
Firefighters are investigating the causes of the fires.
Police report that one man died in the fire in Patrick City.
He has been identified as 60-year-old Paul Smith of Beaconfield, Patrick City, Kingston 20.
Reports from the hunts bay police are that about 9:00 p.m., Smith, who was wheelchair-bound, was at home with relatives when fire was seen coming from the premises.
One of the relatives called for help; however, no one was able to assist smith out of the burning house.
The fire department was contacted, and after the cooling operation, the burnt remains of smith were discovered.
In the meantime, it’s being reported that several customers attached to telecommunications company Digicel have been affected by the fire on Spanish Town Road.
The blaze which affected a business establishment began shortly after 2 a.m.
In a post on it’s Instagram page Digicel said customers in Olympic Gardens, Cockburn Gardens, Patrick City, Washington Gardens, and Delacree Park have been affected.
It advised that it will deploy its team of engineers to the areas to restore service, as soon as it is safe to do so.
