WRHA says mother of baby who died on Good Friday treated in accordance with medical protocols for high-risk pregnancies

Clinical Coordinator at the Western Regional Health Authority, Dr. Delroy Fray says the mother of baby Ramontay Rakai Ranger, who died at the Cornwall Regional Hospital on Good Friday, was treated in accordance with medical protocols for high-risk pregnancies.

This, amidst public concern over whether or not the Hospital was negligent in Ramontay’s case.

The baby’s 33-year-old mother, Shandale Ballentine, has detailed her ordeal at the St. James-based Hospital in social media posts, saying she has several questions to be answered.

However, Dr. Fray said Ballentine’s pregnancy was deemed high-risk when she arrived at the hospital, and after thoroughly examining her case file, he found that all protocols associated with her condition were followed.

Dr. Fray added that the child’s post-mortem will be evaluated as part of the review of the case.
