18 of 20 health facilities in Westmoreland functional following Hurricane Melissa

Months after the passage of Hurricane Melissa, 18 of the 20 health centres in Westmoreland are functional.

The Western Regional Health Authority says of those not functional, one is expected to resume operations soon and the other is slated for full reconstruction.

The authority notes that in communities where access remains limited, health care teams have been conducting home visits, outreach clinics and delivering services within shelters to ensure continuity of care.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton noted that despite disruptions, the health system has remained responsive and accessible.

Efforts are also underway to reconnect with patients who have missed scheduled appointments, particularly those managing chronic illnesses.
