West Indies woman beaten by Australia in T/20 decider

The West Indies women’s cricketers, despite another player of the match performance by captain Hayley Mathews, went down by 47 runs in the final game of the three-match t20 international series against Australia in Brisbane.

This to suffer a 2-1 series defeat.

Mathews, despite carrying an injury, led from the front slamming 11 fours and 4 sixes in a blistering 79 from 40 balls….a feat that saw her winning the player of the match award for the 8th consecutive game.

Her effort, however, proved futile with the Windies losing their remaining 9 wickets for 47 runs as they were dismissed for 143 in 19.5 overs in their chase of 191.

Mathews who was also named player of the series following scores of 99 and 132 said her aim was to lead by example.

Aaliyah Alleyne 26 and Shabika Gajnabi 16 were the only other ‘Windies batters into double figures.

Earlier the ‘Aussies inserted to take first strike made 190 for 9 with Tahlia Mcgrath 65 and Elyze Perry 40 the top scorers against Shamilia Connell who took 3 for 25.

The teams now turn their attention to the three-match one day international series which bowls off on Saturday, also in Brisbane.
