Vaz says service withdrawal by PPV operators has been moderate, while urging participating drivers to resume operations

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has indicated that the withdrawal of service while affecting most parishes, has been moderate.

The operators took action, to highlight their discontent with the mandatory suspension of driver’s licences, for the accumulation of 10 or more demerit points.

The transport operators’ concerns were previously brought to the government’s attention, and a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to address the concerns.

The Minister questioned the motive behind this morning’s protests while reiterating his call for good sense to prevail.

Mr. Vaz noted that he has already committed that the matters will be addressed at a meeting tomorrow and will be a part of the review of the Road Traffic Act which continues until the end of June.

He appealed to the drivers taking part in the strike, to resume their duties and to desist from blocking the nation’s roads.
