UTECH students able to access grades following delays due to protest by lecturers

University of Technology students can now access their grades and all other services which had been suspended or delayed by academic staff, earlier this week.

The grades were released after a meeting involving UTECH staff, UTECH administration, union representatives, as well as the Ministries of Finance and Education.

Upset lecturers withheld students’ grades for semester one as part of protests to get the university’s management and the government to address compensation related concerns.

In a statement yesterday, UTECH said following  reasonable discussions, the government’s proposed salary bands were shared with the union heads.

The workers are represented by the University of Technology Academic Staff Union, the University of Technology Administrative Staff Union and the University and Allied Workers Union.

The unions had been calling for the implementation of the governments’ compensation review, as well as  for a parity exercise to be conducted prior to its implementation.

UTECH said discussions  relating to the parity aspect are being held.
