USF’s CEO Dr. Daniel Dawes has died

Chief Executive Officer of the Universal Service Fund, USF, Dr. Daniel Dawes has died.

He was reportedly found unresponsive at his home in St. Andrew today.

Head of the St. Andrew Central Police Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth said there is no suspicion of foul play.

Meantime, several government officials have expressed shock and sadness at the sudden death of Dr. Dawes.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness described Dr. Dawes as a visionary, who devoted himself to bridging the digital divide and ensuring that every Jamaican has access to technology.

Mr. Holness said Jamaica has lost an exceptional leader, adding that Dr. Dawes work helped to advance communities and empower countless lives.

And, Telecommunications Minister Daryl Vaz said, not only was Dr. Dawes dedicated to the work of the people, he was also a man with a great presence. 

Mr. Vaz offered condolences to Dr. Dawes’ relatives, as well as the staff of the USF, as they go through this very devastating time.
