Undocumented Jamaicans in Florida urged to get immigration status regularized quickly, following approval of immigration bill
Undocumented Jamaicans living in the US state of Florida are being urged to get their immigration status regularized quickly, following the approval of a sweeping immigration bill pushed by Governor Ron Desantis.
According to the US media, the bill aimed at curbing illegal immigration will among other things stiffen requirements on businesses to check the immigration status of workers and require certain hospitals to collect data on patients’ immigration status.
Meantime, Managing Director of Caribbean Immigrant Services Irwin Clare, says undocumented Jamaicans have to find ways to regularize themselves.
He adds that even community-based organizations that would have granted sanctuary and opportunities to persons, will be under scrutiny due to the immigration rules that are to be implemented.
