UK announces over $27M in funding to support Jamaica’s marine conservation efforts
The United Kingdom has announced over $27 million in funding to support Jamaica’s marine conservation efforts.
It’s being done through the Social Challenge Fund geared at helping Caribbean nations harness their ocean resources to improve climate resilience, the livelihoods of vulnerable communities and to protect vital natural habitats.
Two key non-governmental organizations in Jamaica are among the beneficiaries.
The Montego-bay Marine Park Trust will receive approximately $19.2 million to enhance environmental monitoring and enforcement in the park.
While, the Jamaica White River Marine Association will receive an estimated $8.48 million to engage Jamaican fishers in the conservation of critically endangered keystone coral species.
