Two women killed and five injured in three-vehicle collision in Trelawny

Two women were killed and five other persons were injured in a three-vehicle collision on the Braco main road in Trelawny yesterday.

Dead are 25-year-old Andrene Gordon and 39-year-old Heather Stennet, both of Discovery Bay in St. Ann.

According to Head of the Trelawny Police, Acting Superintendent Winston Milton, the collision occurred at around 2:30 p.m. and included a white Toyota Isis, a blue Kia Sportage and a black Kia Sorento.

Reports are that two of the vehicles crashed head on and ended up in the path of the other vehicle.

Seven persons were taken to hospital where the two women, who were passengers in the Isis van, were pronounced dead and the five others were treated.

Mr. Milton said the Trelawny Police are investigating the incident, noting that it is believed the crash resulted from improper overtaking.

Speaking on the incident, Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr Lucien Jones said these crashes are avoidable, if persons obey road safety guidelines.
