Two people killed in motor vehicle crash along the Mandela highway this morning
Two people were killed in a crash along the Mandela Highway this morning (January 9).
Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council Dr Lucien Jones said the incident took place around 1:30 AM.
He said the deceased are a 40-year-old female and a 17-year-old male.
IRIE FM news understands that the deceased were mother and son.
Reports are that the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to exit unto the highway, causing it to fall into a ditch and overturn.
The injured driver and passenger were taken to the Spanish Town hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Dr Jones said 8 persons have died in road fatalities since the start of the year, in comparison to 13 last year.
He called on road users to be vigilant while traversing the roadways.
