Two men shot, one fatally, in confrontations with lawmen
A twenty-five-year-old man was shot and killed during a confrontation with the police in Bois Content, Old Harbour, St. Catherine, Wednesday morning.
Dead is Jerome Bailey, otherwise called ‘Dim Dim’, of Old Harbour.
Reports are that at around 2: 45 AM, officers had a confrontation with Bailey during which he was shot and killed. An intra–tech submachine firearm, along with a quantity of ammunition was reportedly seized during the incident.
The Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (iPROB) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are probing the fatal shooting.
Meanwhile, a man was also shot and wounded in a gun battle with members of the security forces in East Kingston, on Wednesday morning.
Reports are that a joint police-military team was searching for a person of interest in the division when they came under gunfire.
The lawmen returned the fire, and the person of interest was shot and wounded in the exchange.
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) says the wounded man was taken to hospital for medical attention.
It notes that a Smith and Wesson 9MM pistol and a magazine with seven rounds of ammunition were recovered during the incident.
The weapon is among some 13 that have been seized by the joint security forces since the start of June.
The JDF notes that eleven pistols, one submachine gun and one rifle were seized up to June 23.
Eighty-six live rounds and ten magazines were also recovered in that period.
Nine persons were detained in connection with those seizures.
