Trial of Tesha Miller and 24 co-accused adjourns abruptly, due to medical emergency
The trial of Tesha Miller and his 24 co-accused was adjourned abruptly this afternoon, due to a medical emergency with one of the accused men.
This after one of the defendants, who is a medical doctor advised an attorney that at least one of the co-accused was displaying symptoms of a medical condition.
After the issue was brought up, the attorneys approached the bench and spoke with Presiding Judge Dale Palmer.
Following that, Justice Palmer gave instructions for all the accused men who are in custody to get medical attention immediately.
He also instructed that 2 of the accused relocate to another holding facility.
This morning when the trial commenced minutes to 11:00 a.m., the prosecution indicated to the court that it had no further question for its first witness who is a detective corporal.
The witness first took the stand yesterday.
While presenting his evidence the Detective Corporal recounted an operation he was apart of on March 5, 2023 in Spanish Town, where at least two men were apprehended.
The witness gave evidence that on March 5, 2023 after briefing he and a team went to a location in Spanish Town.
The witness said he was apart of the cordon team, which was positioned outside the building.
He said after the breach team entered the building, he was later informed one man was found.
The Detective said he entered the building after it was declared cleared and he saw one man, whose identity was disclosed to him and matched the named on the warrant he saw during the briefing.
The witness testified that he later heard a motor vehicle at the front. He said he looked around the corner and saw 3 men exiting the vehicle.
He said two of the men entered the yard.
The Detective said that when he was about to alert his colleague, another vehicle drove up and parked behind the first vehicle, and the two men in the yard ran towards him at the back of the building.
He said he made himself visible and shouted police.
He testified that one of the men pointed a gun at him, so he fired his service weapon and the man fell to the ground.
The witness said the other man ran passed him and was pursued by another officer but later escaped.
Meantime, before the adjournment the witness was being crossed examined by the defence.
Miller and his co-accused are facing several charges for offences under the anti-gang legislation, murder and robbery.
The charges relate to several alleged incidents which occurred across several parishes between 2017 and 2022.
The trial will resume on Monday February 9.
