Transport Ministry to launch pedestrian safety campaign

The Transport Ministry will soon launch a pedestrian safety campaign as part of efforts to sensitise road users about road safety.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz made the announcement while reacting to reports that a woman died after being hit by a truck in St Catherine earlier today.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Dead is 20-year-old customer service representative, Brittny Hunter of Commodore in the parish.

Reports are that about 8 AM, Hunter was crossing Walks Road, when she was hit, then run over by a truck that was being driven towards Angels.

The police were alerted and hunter was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The truck driver has been warned for prosecution.

In a statement, Mr. Vaz expressed sadness at the tragic incident and extended condolences to Hunter’s relatives.

He noted that road safety is a matter of utmost importance and that the Government is committed to working tirelessly to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.

He said the Ministry is about to roll out a pedestrian safety campaign, specifically aimed at educating and protecting this category of road users.

The Minister urged all road users to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and always prioritize the safety of themselves and others.
