Transport Minister calls for stricter legislation to ensure people who vandalize JUTC buses are seriously penalized

Adjustments could be made to the country’s legislation to ensure that people who vandalize State property are seriously penalized.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz made this declaration during a Post-Cabinet press briefing yesterday (September 6).

His comment followed the recent vandalism of one of the new buses deployed by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).

Mr. Vaz explained that in other jurisdictions the destruction of State-owned property is seen as a serious offence.

Lamenting that the recent vandalism of the JUTC bus is seen only as a stone-throwing incident, Mr Vaz said something must be done to address this.
