Tagenarine Chanderpaul produces historic double Test century as WI stifle Zimbabwe
Tagenarine Chanderpaul produced an impressive and masterful batting show today to score his first test double century as the west indies tighten their grip on the first test against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The young Guyanese batter, son of legendary former west indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul who started the day on 101 his first test century in his 3rd test match……..hit 16 fours and three sixes while facing 467 balls on his way to 207 not out.
the 26 year old Chanderpul added 336 runs for the first wicket with captain Kraig Braithwaite. it was west Indies’s highest opening stand in test cricket
This partnership eclipsed the 298 made by Gordon Greenridge and Desmond Haynes against England in St John’s in 1990.
This as the west indies piled up a massive 447 for 6 declared.
Meanwhile Braithwaite who started todays rd day of the rain affected test on 116, scored 182 off 312 balls coloured by 18 fours
Brendan Mavuta led the bowling for the home side with 5 for 140, while wellington Masakadza took 1 for 85.the Windies bowlers responded to have the home team at 114 for 3 at the close of play Alzarri Joseph, Braithwaite and Gudakesh Motie claiming a wicket each, with Innocent Kaia unbeaten on 59.
