Sean Kingston and his mother remain jailed after being arrested at separate locations by federal authorities on Thursday (May 23).
Sean Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner, was first arrested on fraud and theft charges following a SWAT raid on her son’s lavish rented South Florida mansion in a Fort Lauderdale suburb. Hours later, the singer was arrested in California on similar charges.
Before his own arrest, Sean Kingston posted on Instagram, “People love negative energy! I am good, and so is my mother! … My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
However, according to NBC News in South Florida, the raids were connected to a lawsuit alleging that Sean Kingston had not paid for luxury items, including a TV, watches, and a custom-made bed. Meanwhile, his mother has faced legal issues in the past over false loan applications and bank fraud.
The Jamaican-American singer is best known for his 2007 hit song “Beautiful Girls” and his collaboration with Justin Bieber on the song “Eenie Meenie.”
